Bagdad Lecture Series of 2011 Continues with the Story of “Commissaries and Currency in Northwest Florida”
The third in the Bagdad Village Preservation Association’s lecture series continues with “Commissaries and Currencies in Northwest Florida,” telling the story of the stores owned and operated by sawmills, and even some other businesses, in Northwest Florida. They were often the only place mill workers could purchase their food, clothing, and household goods, often at inflated prices. Most mills even minted their own currency, which was mainly all that was accepted at some of the commissaries. Presenting will be Charles Booher, noted collector and researcher into Northwest Florida history.
The program will be presented on April 2 at 10: OO AM at the Bagdad Museum, 5412 Church Street (telephone 850 983 3005). The Museum opens at 9:00 AM. The program will be followed by a question and answer session, as well as refreshments. There is no charge and all are welcome.
