One of the most significant  aspects of the main street in Bagdad, Forsyth Street, is fighting occurred in running battles up and down the street.  It is safe to say someone, maybe women and children were looking out the windows witnessing history in the antebellum homes on the tour.   However, Christmas and winter time became a reason or excuse to return home on furlough and to realize again what the war was really all about.  This must have been a precious time for the soldiers, having the opportunity to recoup from hard fighting, endless marching and many sicknesses, to spend time with their wives and children.  In 1862, the illusion of a quick war was ending and the realization this was going to be long hard fight was beginning to set in, making Christmas Furlough, Antebellum Bagdad all the more valuable and needed.  Come experience some of what they saw and walk where they walked.
